Privacy Policy
Last updated: 20 March 2026
GadgetDesk UK (“we”, “us”, “our”) operates the website gadgetdesk.co.uk. This policy explains what personal data we collect, how we use it, and your rights under UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.
1. Data we collect
We collect minimal data. Specifically:
- Server logs: Your IP address, browser user-agent, referring URL, and the pages you visit are recorded in standard web server access logs. These are retained for 30 days and used solely for security and performance monitoring.
- Analytics: If you accept cookies, we use a self-hosted analytics tool (Matomo) to understand which articles are read most. This data is anonymised — we cannot identify individual users. No data is shared with Google or third-party ad networks.
- Email correspondence: If you email us, we retain your email address and message content to respond to your enquiry. We do not add you to any mailing list.
2. Cookies
We use two types of cookies:
- Essential cookies: Store your cookie consent preference. These are set regardless of your choice and expire after 12 months.
- Analytics cookies: Set only if you click “Accept” on the cookie banner. Used to count page visits and identify popular content. Anonymised; no cross-site tracking.
You can withdraw consent at any time by clearing your browser cookies. The cookie banner will reappear on your next visit to the homepage.
3. Third-party content
Images on this site are served directly from Wikimedia Commons under Creative Commons licences. Wikimedia’s own privacy policy applies to those requests. We do not embed social media widgets, advertising scripts, or third-party tracking pixels.
External links are provided for reference. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of third-party sites.
4. Your rights under UK GDPR
You have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Request correction of inaccurate data
- Request erasure of your data
- Object to processing based on legitimate interests
- Lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO)
To exercise any of these rights, email us at hello@gadgetdesk.co.uk.
5. Data retention
Server logs: 30 days. Email correspondence: 24 months from last contact. Anonymised analytics: 24 months rolling. We do not sell, rent, or trade any personal data.
6. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy to reflect legal or operational changes. The date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of the site after a policy change constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
